Care Guide

The most sustainable way to shop begins with

knowing why and how your clothes were made.

But the journey begins after you bring them home.

We're here to help you make it easy.

Because just like anything we love,

our clothes deserve to be cared for.

Wash responsibly.

You don't need to wash your pieces after every wear! We recommend airing them out on a hanger in between wearing them. Only wash them after wearing them at least three times, or when you need to remove stains immediately.

Make sure that your pieces are dry (not damp) to prevent mold—and always hang, not fold, your naturally dyed pieces in shade.

We recommend you to hand wash your clothes with cold water. While dry cleaning is a safe option, hand-washing them reduces energy use, is better for the environment, and also prolongs their life. After preparing your laundry properly, follow these steps.

Preparing the laundry

  1. Make sure clothes are turned inside out.
  2. Separate by colors to avoid color-ins.

Material guide

  1. Dry clean your silk (Tencel Silk blend, Silk Organza) pieces as water makes them more fragile and prone to staining.
  2. Raw, undyed handwoven cotton is machine washable.
  3. Hand wash dyed handwoven cotton to avoid color fading.
  4. Hand wash or dry clean Tencel fabric to avoid lint and fuzziness.
  5. Avoid soaking naturally dyed fabric for longer than three minutes.

Hand-washing

  1. Prepare your laundry.
  2. Fill a clean bucket with cold or lukewarm water.
  3. Pour about a table spoon of mild detergent and stir well.
  4. Put your clothes in.
  5. Swirl them around gently for about a minute
  6. Let them soak for less than 2 minutes.
  7. Apply additional detergent right on the stains
  8. Rub the fabric very gently against itself.
  9. Let it soak for another 2 minutes.
  10. Carefully take the clothes out of the water.
  11. Put them on a clean towel next to your sink.
  12. Pour out the soap water.
  13. Rinse the clothes with fresh water for about 1 more minute.
  14.  Squeeze gently to remove excess water. Do not twist.
  15. Make sure that you rinse properly to avoid yellowing.
  16. Prepare for drying.

We recommend line drying your clothes to prevent any breakage. Avoid dryers. Aside from consuming a lot of energy, a dryer can be harmful to your clothes and fades the colors out. Follow these steps instead:

Line dry

  1. Make sure clothes are turned inside out.
  2. Line dry in shade.
  3.  Fix the clothes to minimize wrinkles.

Pro tip

Long silk dresses should be prepped before line drying. These steps are meant to reduce their water weight and hence the risk of damage:

  1. Lay flat on a clean towel.
  2.  Cover with another towel.
  3. Apply pressure to remove excess water.

Choosing the right detergent

Any pH neutral cleansers like hand soap and shampoo work well. We recommend using a natural ingredient-based detergent, like soapnuts (lerak). We'd also avoid chlorine, optical brighteners, sulfates, petrochemicals, synthetic colors, phosphates, parabens, and artificial perfumes in the detergent whenever possible.
