About SukkhaCitta
What does "SukkhaCitta" mean?
Our name means happiness in Indonesian. Taking its Sanskrit root, it's a reminder that connection is what makes a life worth living. From our artisans directly to you – and back to their communities. Full circle.
What does "Ibus" mean?
"Ibu" is Indonesian for mother. It’s a common term used in Indonesia to address women to show respect and appreciation. And it’s what we call all our craftswomen in our villages.
In Eastern Indonesia, they prefer to be called "Mama" - which is the inspiration behind our Mama Kapas program: Helping smallholder farmers switch from monoculture to organic regenerative farming.

What is Rumah SukkhaCitta?
Rumah SukkhaCitta is our craft school. It's where we provide access to education to women who need it most. Providing knowledge of intergenerational culture, environmental stewardship, and business skills directly to mothers without having to leave her village.
Translated into 'House of Joy', these award-winning schools are run by Rumah SukkhaCitta Foundation. To date, we've built 5 schools across the Archipelago.

Is SukkhaCitta ethical?
We exist to build a bridge between craftswomen and customers, and will continue to do so. In 2022, we earned two third-party certifications that verify our commitments: B Corp Best for the World: Community and the Nest Seal of Ethical Handcraft.
Is SukkhaCitta vegan?
We exclusively use plant based fibers–no secret ‘blends’ that hide polyester here. Our signature raw cotton fabric is handwoven by master weavers in Central Java, and we are in the process of going 100% traceable regenerative cotton. Our Tencel, Sylk fabrics are from Lenzing AG, made using Eucalyptus fibres through a closed-loop facility.
- Our buttons, made from waste Mother-of-pearls in Makassar.
- Our vegetarian batik wax, made from beeswax, pine gum, and reclaimed parrafin.
While our dyes are 100% plant-based, we currently use non-vegan materials in our pieces. We ensure they are sustainably sourced to be kind to the planet and minimize waste. Those materials are:

Products
How do I find my size? Will the clothes shrink?
You can find the detailed size measurements for each of our creations in the corresponding product page. Our Creative Director made this easy guide to measure yourself here.
All of our garments are pre-shrunk and will not change sizing after you wash them.
Why natural dyes? Will the color last?
We believe what we wear should not come at the cost of our planet. Working with mothers in Villages, not factories, we use 100% plant dyes and natural mordants to protect our Ibus' health and our environment.
Wearing natural clothes without chemicals is also better for your health as they are naturally hypoallergenic, thermo-regulating, and lets your skin breathe properly.
To ensure your natural dyed clothes last as long as possible, please follow our Care Guide here.
Are SukkhaCitta pieces biodegradable?
We are happy to share that our creations are tested for biodegradability in a home compost.
Why is this important? Today, most of garments are made from plastics with hundreds of chemicals to dye and finish. Made of petroleum and fossil fuels, these synthetic materials cannot return to Nature. When thrown out, they will continue to release toxins into the soil for decades.
This is why wearing natural clothes is not only better for your health - it ensures the health of our only planet.
Are SukkhaCitta pieces recyclable?
Yes, we do our best to ensure nothing leaves the loop. Learn more about our Lifecycle Responsibility.
How do you decide the pricing?
The value of our creations reflect the process of crafting it. We exclusively use heritage craftsmanships that are still made entirely by hand, not machines. Taking months to finish one single garment while providing living wages from farm to closet.
At every step of the journey, we ensure no harm is done to the environment. From using only traceable natural materials to 100% plant dyes. To helping smallholder farmers switch from monoculture and chemicals to organic regenerative farming.
Each of our creations come with a Lifetime Repair guarantee. Learn more about our Lifecycle Responsibility here.
Do you do custom orders?
